Usually, this isn’t a problem, but it can get annoying if you’re working on related workbooks and need to pop back and forth a lot. If you have two worksheets you want to work on, and they’re in different workbooks, you’ll have to close one to work on the other. One last limitation is that Excel for iPad can only be used on one workbook at a time.

External keyboards are also supported, and worked well in my testing-there’s even a cheat sheet in the app’s help (somewhat hidden in the menu used for saving and duplicating workbooks) that shows you how to navigate and work with the app using an external keyboard.
